Investigation into CBA’s Unfair Fees on Low-Income Accounts
Gerard Malouf & Partners is investigating a potential class action on behalf of low-income customers with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA). These customers were allegedly unfairly charged fees when they were eligible for fee-free banking alternatives.
If you held a CBA Complete Access or Smart Access Account, received government benefits such as Centrelink and were charged account-keeping, overdraw or dishonour fees, you may be eligible to participate in this class action investigation.
This investigation examines whether CBA breached the Banking Code of Practice and other statutory consumer protections. While ASIC’s regulatory scrutiny has prompted banks to refund over $93 million to affected customers, CBA is reported to have withheld approximately $270 million in fees charged to low-income account holders.
