Our client was born with Quadriplegic Dystonic Cerebral Palsy, which was caused by complications during delivery.
During labour, our client’s mother was administered with penicillin, which resulted in an anaphylactic reaction and she entered a period of maternal hypotension.Â
Despite two significant events of bradycardia (oxygen deprivation to the foetus), no attempts were made to deliver the baby by caesarean section. The obstetrician continued with the normal birthing process of a vaginal delivery. Our client was deprived of adequate oxygen and suffered hypoxic ischaemic damage at birth. A period of 3 days later, she was transferred to the Royal North Shore Hospital NICU due to the onset of myoclonic seizures.
Due to the damage to her brain, our client has been unable to reach most of her developmental milestones and requires full assistance from her family and caregivers, as well as assistive equipment to engage in daily activities.Â
The medical negligence team at GMP worked diligently on the case. They acquired and analysed clinical records and medical reports, and briefed medical specialists to ensure that justice was served for the client and her family. After a long and difficult fight, the case was settled in June 2019 following a Mediation.
