Woman obtains $170,000 in compensation after suffering slip and fall at a suburban home

Case Overview

Following a slip and fall outside our clients sub-urban home, she contacted Gerard Malouf & Partners to handle her case

Our team obtained an expert liability report from a safety management and building specialist, who provided the opinion that the Defendant should have ensured that safe access and egress, was always available at the Defendant’s home.

Our expert conducted a slip test of the ceramic tiles on the outdoor steps and was of the opinion that the ceramic tiles fail the Australian Standards for slip resistance. Our expert was of the opinion that the stairs could have been more slip resistant with the application of grip tape for as little as $20.00. The stairs also did not have a handrail, which if installed for as little as $120.00 could have been used as support while the Plaintiff was descending the stairs.

Proceedings in the District Court were commenced against the homeowners.

The Result

The claim was approved after lengthy negotiations for
over $170,000.
