As a Senior Partner at GMP Law, Verge (Reg) brings over 31 years of experience in personal injury and insurance litigation to the firm. His unique background, having initially worked for insurance companies for over 8 years (including TAC in Melbourne and GIO in Sydney), gives him invaluable insight into insurance company tactics and operations.
Reg specialises in motor vehicle accidents and public liability cases, excelling in negotiating settlements in even the most challenging circumstances. His reputation as a highly regarded compensation solicitor and advocate has been built on his dedication to fighting for clients’ rights across New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria.
Reg served as the managing partner of GMP Law for 20 years, playing a pivotal role in establishing the systems and protocols that laid the foundation for the firm’s continued growth and success. During his tenure, he focused on training and mentoring a young team of lawyers, instilling a positive and successful culture where clients’ rights were always paramount. Reg takes pride in seeing many of these lawyers progress into partnership roles, now successfully guiding GMP Law through its ongoing success. One of his career highlights includes successfully prosecuting cases outside of Australia, representing injured Australians in the USA, France, England, and the Pacific Islands, to name a few.
In his current senior management role, Reg oversees a team of dedicated and skilled compensation solicitors who specialise in representing clients against insurance companies. A member of the Australian Lawyers Alliance and the Law Society of NSW, Reg was instrumental in expanding GMP Law’s regional presence along Australia’s Eastern Coast. This move ensured that individuals in underserved areas have access to the legal support they need to pursue justice.
Reg holds a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws and is an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law. He is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of NSW and the High Court of Australia.
One of Reg’s most rewarding cases involved an Australian man who sustained a serious injury while on holiday in Fiji. When the insurance company contested the jurisdiction, Reg and his team tirelessly fought to have the case heard in Australia. This legal battle escalated to the Court of Appeal in Fiji during a time of political upheaval, when the courts were effectively frozen for years. Their determination paid off, securing the right to have the case heard in Australia. This ultimately resulted in a six-figure settlement, an outcome that would not have been possible under Fiji’s compensation limits.
Having joined GMP Law in 1996 when the firm was in its infancy, Reg counts seeing the firm’s growth as one of his career highlights. He values the firm’s flexibility in approaching challenges and willingness to go where clients are located, which has set GMP Law apart from its competitors. His mediation and negotiation skills, honed both professionally and personally, remain one of his greatest strengths in achieving optimal outcomes for his clients.
Outside of work, Reg is a dedicated family man with five children and six grandchildren. He stays actively involved in his community and regularly supports his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting activities. When called upon, he also serves as the occasional chauffeur for his grandchildren, all while trying to convert them into passionate Tigers supporters for both AFL and NRL.
In the spirit of reconciliation GMP Law acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea, and community. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present, and emerging, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
