Dory Bouassi, Lawyer

Dory Bouassi has held many interesting positions. He has experience in the conduct of commissions of inquiry at a federal level. He was an Associate to the Honourable James Douglas KC, Nick Kaldas APM and Dr. Peggy Brown during the Royal Commission investigating Defence and Veteran Suicide. Dory also assisted three members of Senior Counsel Assisting the Royal Commission, Peter Gray KC (now the Honourable Justice Peter Gray KC), Kevin Connor SC, and Erin Longbottom KC, as well as many other junior barristers working on the Royal Commission.

Dory was originally interested in practicing as a criminal lawyer. He started his litigation experience in criminal law volunteering for the Aboriginal Legal Service. He would later move to private criminal law, working as a Paralegal for accredited specialists and Doyle’s Leading practitioners in criminal law, at Armstrong Legal.

Dory has a passion for advocacy. In 2019, Dory would compete in the Ashurst Tort Law Moot and in 2021, Dory’s team would win the Western Sydney University Witness Examination Competition. In 2022, Dory undertook Advocacy, a course taught by the Honourable David Collier, and a course based on the 2012 bar course. He enjoys reading books on advocacy, including those written by Bryan A. Garner, Nicholas Chowdery, the late Chester Porter QC and Geoffrey Robertson KC.

Dory currently assists Partner Richele Nelson in her Institutional Abuse and Public Liability practice. Dory’s experience in criminal defence and administrative law gives him a unique perspective to cases.

Dory’s areas of interest include personal injury with a particular focus on Institutional Abuse, Public Law and Administrative Law.
