WorkCover NSW is encouraging small businesses in the region to take advantage of its free online work health and safety webinars.
One was recently held in late May and is due to be repeated on Wednesday June 20 between 10:00 and 11:00 in the morning.
WorkCover is dedicated to promoting health and safety in the workplace – in the aim that this will foster growth of the region’s economy.
It is holding these free webinars to educate small businesses about the new health and safety work laws that came into effect on January 1, 2012.
“The webinar will provide an opportunity for small business owners and workers adjusting to the new laws to ask questions and seek clarification on how they affect their workplace,” general manager of WorkCover’s health and safety division John Watson said on May 28.
WorkCover is part of the Compensation Authorities Staff Division and it oversees six main elements of employment relations.
These include – work health and safety, licensing and registration of high risk activities, workers compensation insurance and benefits, sustainable return to employment for injured workers and management of the Worker’s Compensation Insurance Fund.
As an employee, you may want to know that if you injure yourself while on the job you could be eligible for compensation.
This can help you to pay for the costs of recovery, including medical treatment for injuries as well as money for missed days of work.
In many cases, compensation is crucial for a person’s rehabilitation, as medical bills and unemployment can sometimes be highly expensive.
A police inspector, Toby Lindsay, recently told a parliamentary inquiry into WorkCover how compensation had made it possible to reenter the workforce, the Sydney Herald reported on May 29.
“If my treatment has been cut off earlier… obviously I wouldn’t be where I am now. I’ve got a need for ongoing surgery,” Mr Lindsay said.
Victims of all kinds of accidents may want to know that they could also be eligible for reimbursement.
Compensation claims go beyond workplace incidents – there are lawyers in Sydney that can help you gain adequate reparations for injuries sustained from car crashes, medical negligence and more.
Although the thought of being involved in an accident is not welcome to anyone, it is important that people understand that there are services out there that are prepared to help in the event that they are harmed.
