A smash in a suburb north of Sydney resulted in a female driver being trapped in her wrecked vehicle for almost an hour.
The accident occurred on Mona Vale Road near McCarrs Creek Road at around 11:00 on November 22 and involved a small silver sedan and a truck.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the collision where they had to free the car's driver – a 19-year-old woman – from her damaged vehicle.
The extraction process took approximately an hour and Fire and Rescue workers had to remove the roof of the car to allow Ambulance officers to gain access to the injured female.
She is understood to have suffered serious head injuries during the accident and was placed into an induced coma – allowing paramedics to stabilise her before continuing with other treatments.
Ambulance officers considered her condition to be so severe that they called in the CareFlight trauma team, with the helicopter crew landing in a nearby car park.
However, the woman was eventually transferred to the Royal North Shore Hospital by road ambulance – with one of the trauma doctors in attendance on the journey.
According to police reports, the male driver of the truck was not injured in the crash and did not require medical assistance.
Traffic around the area was severely disrupted for a length of time as officials cordoned off a section of the roadway – with all east-bound traffic being diverted onto Forest Way, while westerly motorists were reduced to a slow crawl.
Officers were joined by members of the NSW Police Force’s Crash Investigation Unit who have since examined the scene for evidence.
It is uncertain at this time how the accident came to occur, with no official comments or media releases being issued on the topic and no indication of contributing factors.
In NSW, car accident compensation can be made available to victims who are involved in a collision.
These payments are not restricted to the drivers involved – passengers and motorcycle pillions are also able to launch claims if they are injured during a crash.
The funds can be used to help cover ongoing medical costs and rehabilitation therapies needed to restore their confidence after an accident.
While the idea of launching a compensation case can seem daunting, a no win no fee law firm can provide victims with access to the legal resources they need to make an informed decision.
