April got off to a tragic start this year, with NSW Police reporting that four people died due to fatal motor vehicle accidents just one week after six individuals lost their lives on the state’s roads.
Figures from Transport for NSW’s Centre for Road Safety show that 82 deaths have already occurred because of motor accidents in 2017, while 92 had died at this point last year.
On Saturday (April 1), a man passed away following a week-long fight for his life after a collision in Orange on March 23. The 72-year-old was a passenger in a Toyota that struck a prime mover. The driver of the Toyota was also injured, although the prime mover’s driver walked away unharmed.
Another man, 30, also died on Saturday following a serious crash in Tamworth. He was driving a Ford Falcon when it collided with a Toyota Kluger, causing injuries to three other people.
While the Ford Falcon driver died at the scene, a 19-year-old female passenger in the vehicle was treated for minor ailments. Meanwhile, NSW Ambulance also provided medical care to the driver and passenger of the Kluger, both female, before all three were taken to Tamworth Hospital for further review.
Lastly, two men were killed after crashing their motorcycles in separate incidents over the weekend. Both men died at the scene, with one accident occurring in Howes Valley and the other in Hunter Valley.
Motor accident compensation for loved ones
The news came just one week after six people were killed in motor accidents across the weekend of March 25-26. This included the death of a three-year-old girl from South Grafton, who was hit by a truck on Sunday March 26.
Other accidents included a vehicle colliding with a power pole and bursting into flames in Matraville, which resulted in the deaths of two people, as well as a single-car crash in Wee Waa that led to a 27-year-old woman’s death.
Losing a loved one in a car accident is a traumatic experience that not only causes emotional distress but also financial problems due to hospital bills and loss of income.
