NSW Police has revealed that a 92-year-old man will face sexual abuse charges after he was arrested earlier this month following an alleged incident involving a six-year-old girl.
In January, the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad launched an investigation after it received a report that the girl had been abused while in the care of a relative residing at Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
The accused was arrested in Manly following the unit’s investigation and charged with sexual intercourse with a child under 10 years old and assault with an act of indecency.
According to NSW Police, the man is scheduled to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on March 30 2017. However, the case is just one of a number of sexual abuse and assault cases that officers handled in February.
Spate of sexual crimes in February
On Thursday February 2, a 68-year-old photographer faced 21 counts of indecent assault, as well as three charges of sexual assault and one of common assault.
The alleged incidents, which occurred between 2005 and 2013, were said to have happened when the man was taking professional photographs. He is accused of assaulting three women over the nine-year period.
Meanwhile, a police officer will face charges of sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 10 and two counts of aggravated assault after alleged incidents with a nine-year-old girl in the Central Coast region last year.
The 48-year-old is part of the Northern Region’s Local Area Command and is currently employed as a senior constable. He was arrested earlier this month at Newcastle Police Station after a Professional Standards Command investigation.
