How a man got involved in supporting victims of asbestosis

Date: Dec 15, 2016

On November 25th, the Asbestos Victims Association of South Australia held their annual memorial service to commemorate victims of the deadly substance, ABC reports.

As part of the service, asbestos awareness week began in Adelaide and Terry Miller, a victim of asbestos and the branch president of AVA, has been at the forefront of organising these efforts. Learn about his struggle with asbestosis, what he does to help and how Gerard Malouf & Partners' asbestos compensation lawyers can assist you if you are in NSW and seeking the compensation you deserve.

The president of the Asbestos Victims Association of SA

ABC reports on Terry Miller who, while working on the Elizabeth pipe manufacturing plant for 20 years, came into contact with asbestos. Eventually he was diagnosed with asbestosis due to his earlier work at the Elizabeth pipeline where he was exposed to a large amount of the substance and had to quit his job at a GM Holden.

Since 2000, he has been heavily involved in the AVA and has helped provide support to victims of the deadly disease.

His personal tragedy led him to champion the cause. He has difficulty breathing and needs constant oxygen support, according to ABC. Even making a bed is a huge struggle, Miller says.

"It's stuffed my life," Mr Miller said.

On the AVA website, Miller says that one of his major sources of pride working for AVA was the organisation's part in bringing about the Dust Diseases legislation that was passed by South Australia Parliament in December 2005.
