How 2 babies were injured in the same way at Sydney hospital

Date: Dec 19, 2016

The legal general council for NSW Health has launched an investigation in response to the injury of one baby and the death of another due to the alleged administration of nitrous oxide at the same Sydney hospital. Find out how medical negligence might have occurred and what Gerard Malouf & Partners' medical negligence compensation lawyers can do to help if you or a loved one has been been harmed while receiving medical treatment.

Two babies are harmed in the same way at a Sydney hospital

Parents are claiming that their baby has permanent brain damage after being administered laughing gas at a Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital in Sydney on June 20. As a result, she experiences frequent seizures and must be fed through a tube, ABC News reports.

A month later, another baby died after being given laughing gas at the same hospital.

The Guardian states that the New South Wales Health Minister said that she was "profoundly sorry" for the families and that it was due to the incorrect installation of the oxygen outlet. She also states that NSW Health will do everything it can for them. It has already begun the investigation by enlisting urgent consultation on how this error could've occurred and what it can do to prevent it from happening again.

The parents were told about the wrongly installed gas as an "open disclosure of the facts around the birth."
