Fatal car accident in Rossmore

Date: Jul 04, 2012

On Tuesday July 3 a fatal car accident occurred in Rossmore, claiming the life of a 14-year-old boy.

At approximately 21:30 in the evening, a Holden Commodore station wagon was driving west along Fifteenth Avenue when it left the road and came to a stop in a paddock.

The driver of the station wagon was an 18-year-old male. The causes of the crash are uncertain at this time, but the driver is assisting police in investigations.

When emergency services arrived on the scene, the 14-year-old boy was already deceased.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Another fatal accident claimed a young life earlier this year, this time in Tintinhull not far from Tamworth.

A ten-year-old boy passed away after the Mitsubishi van he was travelling in collided with a Subaru Forester.

This occurred on Sunday February 19 at approximately 14:00 in the afternoon, on the New England Highway.

There were five people in the van and two people in the Subaru, but no other fatalities.

The 54-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi was charged on Monday (July 2) with a number of offences, including negligent driving occasioning death and dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm due to speed.

He is expected to appear in court again on Monday August 6.

According to the police report, his negligent driving included allegedly crossing over to the wrong side of the road, causing the collision with the Subaru.

The two people in the Subaru, a 77-year-old male and a female passenger – whose age is unidentified – were taken to hospital.

All the people travelling in the van suffered from injuries and were also taken to receive medical treatment, apart from the ten-year-old boy.

These two incidents serve as a sombre reminder that there are many risks associated with driving.

As seen with the collision between the van and the Subaru, it is important to exercise extra caution to avoid an accident – negligence behind the wheel has consequences that go beyond court charges, such as the loss of the young boy.
