George Cham - Compensation Lawyer
I have been practising as a solicitor since December 1998 initially in the field of conveyancing and then general law work doing family law, debt recovery and criminal law.
Although I have had various and numerous public liability personal injury claims and continue to do so, my main background has been in industrial accident personal injury claims, being workers compensation and work injury damages claims. Having been in this field for many years, I have experienced the roller coaster of the various major changes in the workers compensation scheme for the last sixteen years, including the changes which took place on 1 January 2002, 1 January 2006 and 19 June 2012.
I have been in the role of a senior workers compensation and work injury damages lawyer at Gerard Malouf & Partners since 10 February 2010 and had a major involvement in the lead up to the changes of 19 June 2012 and had a leading role in dealing with and addressing the consequences once the new laws were applied.
I am from a Lebanese background and grew up in a working class family. I have always valued fairness in my personal life and do so professionally. As a legal practitioner, I believe in the continuing support of social injustice, hence my involvement in personal injury law.
I have an unusual personal interest in comparison to most lawyers and that includes a love for sports such as mixed martial arts, BBJ, boxing and Thai boxing. A common interest I do have though is a love for rugby league.
However, my greatest interest and love is my family.
Being of Lebanese background, I do speak Arabic and have maintained a continuous love and participation in my Lebanese culture. Of course, I have integrated that into my equally beloved Australian culture.
