The most notorious, hazardous and treacherous roads in New South Wales
Published 23 Dec 2015
As the Christmas period is fast approaching, it is widely common for families to spend the festive period travelling and driving interstate or to distant country locations. As our firm would like to wish the general public a safe and happy Christmas, it is worth planning and avoiding the most notorious, hazardous and treacherous roads in New South Wales (NSW) and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) this Christmas.
Barton Highway has been identified as one of the worst stretches of road in NSW and the ACT in a survey consisting of almost 8000 road users.
The highway links Canberra with the Hume Highway at Yass and is notoriously ranked as the eighth worst stretch for motorists in the NRMA's annual Seeing Red on Roads survey.
It was also remarkably reputable for being in the top three of the most-complained about roads in the ACT region, along with Gundaroo Drive and Horse Park Drive in Gungahlin.
Ms Lundy said many commuters who travelled on the Barton Highway became frustrated by traffic jams when the road narrowed, which correlated to the increase of road safety risks.
Recent data revea;ed there were in excess of 500 crashes at the Barton Highway-Gundaroo Drive-William Slim Drive roundabout in the previous five years, which evidently declared the strip of being one of the most notorious and treacherous for motorists.
In NSW, the long and extensive Pacific Highway, which runs along the east coast, and Pennant Hills Road and Parramatta Road in Sydney's west and north-western suburbs were proudly named as the most hated roads in NSW. Motorists who plan to have road trips to holiday destinations should bear in mind, the road safety risks posed by these roads during the festive period.
