Slip and fall at supermarket receives substantial sum of $50,000 compensation

Gerard Malouf and Partners recently represented an elderly gentleman who sustained injuries from a slip and fall accident that occurred at Westfield, Liverpool. On the day of the accident, our client had finished shopping and was heading towards Pots Avenue and Homeart. Due to a squashed chip on the floor, our client slipped and fell near Godfreys, sustaining fractures to his wrists and arms. As a result of the accident our client was taken by Ambulance to Liverpool hospital, where he remained for 7 days.

As a result of the injury our client required substantial domestic assistance, which was provided on a gratuitous basis. Our client also incurred substantial out-of-pocket expenses due to his injury.

Mr Abbas claimed that the defendants had been negligent as they did not maintain a proper cleaning system, whereby the hot chips would have been identified and cleaned. Consequently, the hot chips posed a risk to any reasonable customer that entered the premises. Expert evidence, CCTV footage and medical records supported this claim.

In an effort to quickly, cheaply and justly address the issues, an informal settlement conference was entered, whereby the second defendant agreed to pay our client a sum of $50,000.00. Our client was extremely pleased with the sum received and the professionalism of Mr Abbas.
