Jockey / track worker

We acted for a gentleman who was a jockey/track worker at a well known stable in NSW. On the date of accident, he noticed that the horse he was requested to ride had something wrong with it. He questioned the horse trainer however, the horse trainer demanded that he take the horse around the track for track work.
Unfortunately the horse fell, breaking its shoulder and causing the plaintiff to fall off the horse, suffering significant injuries to his back. The plaintiff required extensive
surgery and still remains in a compromised position. The plaintiff underwent numerous surgeries, which were paid by the workers compensation insurer. As the plaintiff’s injuries exceeded 15% whole person impairment, a work injury damages claim was made against NSW Racing (the insurer which covers horse-related accidents) and the matter resolved for $420,000.00 plus costs.
